- These digital photographs of the
British national bird were taken with a Nikon
D200 camera. The pictures were shot with a 105mm lens
using flash for the first close-up portrait at a low ISO
setting and daylight at higher ISO settings for the
others. A fast shutter speed was needed in order to
freeze the wing movement for the in flight photo and
manual focussing was used. Robins
sometimes become remarkably tame and this individual
would perch right beside the photographer even before any
bait was used. Once food was offered (small hazel
nut fragments removed from a chocolate bar were
gratefully accepted) this bird would approach even more
closely and during a later session a video sequence was
taken at literally point blank range. See Birds
28 for
another Robin portrait.
