• The wing-flapping display shown above by this female Woodland Grasshopper appears to have been an exercise in thermoregulation on a very hot day in southern France rather than an attempt to impress other members of the same species. Well, if the equipment is available why not use it?! At least this gave the photographer a very rare opportunity to photograph a grasshopper with its wings open in a non-artificial environment.
