coverage of British macro-moths with photographs of set
specimens. Very useful.

important work.

recommended.
- 'FIELD GUIDE TO
THE MOTHS OF GREAT BRITAIN AND IRELAND',
PAUL WARING, MARTIN TOWNSEND AND RICHARD LEWINGTON,
BRITISH WILDLIFE PUBLISHING. ISBN 0 0531399 3 (HARDBACK);
ISBN 0 9531399 1 3 (PAPERBACK), A new guide to British
Macro-moths containing over 1,600 superb illustrations of
moths in their natural resting positions by Richard
Lewington. See: http://www.britishwildlife.com/html/books.html for further information.
- 'MOTHS OF
TRIGON, OBSERVATIONS ON A DORSET COUNTRY ESTATE',
CHRIS MANLEY, PAVONIA PRINT, 2006, ISBN 0-9553302-0-3
(PAPERBACK): http://pavoniaprint.mysite.orange.co.uk/index.html . This book can
only be described as a labour of love. Despite the
localised nature of the study an extraordinarily high
number of species have been recorded and photographed on
this Dorset estate including some spectacular rarities.
The lavishly illustrated colour plates will be a valuable
reference for anyone with an interest in British or
northern European moths, in particular the micro-moths
which have only limited photographic material available
in print. Chris is currently working on a much larger
work (see below) covering as much of the British
lepidoptera list as possible and this should be well
worth waiting for as it will contain a key list and
illustrations of larvae, pyrales, plume moths and
butterflies as well as macro-moths! This book will be
published by A & C Black. Just for good measure Chris
is also a very talented sculptor of wildlife subjects -
his work may be seen at: http://www.manle.freeserve.co.uk/ .
- 'BRITISH MOTHS
AND BUTTERFLIES', CHRIS MANLEY, A&C
BLACK/CHRISTOPHER HELM, FORTHCOMING PUBLICATION, DUE
NOVEMBER 2008. Commissioned from the author following the
publication of the 'Moths of Trigon',
this ambitious project will contain over 2,250
photographs of live insects from over 50 contributors
including 850 macromoths, 500 micromoths, 74 butterflies,
315 larvae and a selection of over 50 non-lepidopteran
species from other Orders for comparison. This book is
intended to appeal to a wide audience including the
non-expert.
